19th Century Paper Dolls

Judy on a Thursday ~

6/28/2012

Picture
As promised, here's the last of Volume 26 for Judy. Apropos since it's June and these last two pieces correspond to the month. Click on the image to download a printable .pdf.

If you need the doll, click on the Judy category at right and you'll be able to find her. If it wasn't so hot and I wasn't so lazy, I'd link to the first post, but this way you can see all of the Judy-related posts at the same time.

I was going to go back and pick up Volume 25, which I accidentally skipped, but since I kind of like the whole corresponding months thing, I might continue with Volume 27, which picks up in July.

In other Nudes: If you haven't voted on my poll in the previous post, please do! I had to smile when I checked it this morning since in the night someone quietly voted for the stark naked option (but left no comments; boy would I like to hear about that choice).

If I wasn't so unnerved by the idea of paper men masquerading around naked as jaybirds I wouldn't mind, because it honestly is easier to draw clothes for naked dolls. *snicker* ;)

right??? i feel the same way. and i wouldn't want to embarrass anyone else with nude dolls ~ and then there's thinking about specific characters and what kind of strange statements you might incidentally convey about them given too many particular details ~ hahahahahaha.

so yeah, definite advantages from a practical/design point of view, but maybe way too weird on the flip side.

Well... plus there's the "victorian underwear reformed the body" issue... I mean... sure totally naked would make certain things easier, but it would also make other things harder... since underwear defines silouette so much... plus your dolls age right? So, do you really want to deal with sagging and drooping? I wouldn't...

bizarre ~ weebly won't let me comment directly on your comment, RLC! hopefully you will see this nonetheless:

sagging and drooping! hahahahahahaha ~ but you have a major point there. you can't take one body through five or six decades and expect it to hodl up (especially not in the 19th century!). i sometimes forget that a character who starts out in their thirties will end up in their seventies before all is said and done. definitely don't need to see that ~ hahahahaha ~
