Another astonishing Worth creation from 1882. This image comes from The Opulent Era: Fashions of Worth, Doucet and Pingat
by Elizabeth Ann Coleman. Just in case we needed further proof of Worth's brilliance.

In truth I don't love everything by Worth (some, in fact, make me cringe), but as mentioned before on this blog, this is probably my favorite era of fashion in the 19th century. This is absolutely nothing I would ever want to wear ~ too froo froo with all those flowers, but I do appreciate it as quite the phenomenon of silk and tulle and layers and sculpting!

That's absolutely breathtaking. I can't help thinking that somebody probably got married because of that dress. This Worth was incredibly talented.

not everything Worth did was stunning, but he certainly was an innovator and tried a lot of interesting things with different fabrics ~ and he definitely could make asymmetrical designs look amazing, which is something at which designers of today are less apt, i think.

Yeah, I can't believe the things that survive the drawing board these days... ;)

I love the shape of most of Worth's designs, the draping etc. but man his tendency to slap another flower or MORE bows (the bows make me wince) on a dress can ruin things for me. I love the color and shape of the dress you shared here.
Hope you are well.

it's moo! how d'y'do? : D

yes, i completely agree about the bows and flowers. sometimes it's totally out of control or everything else is lovely and then there's some gross bow thing that just screams all over it. the above case is definitely an example of balance ~ and there are many such examples. i haven't the heart to post the ugly Worths ~ they're just not "worth" it ~ get it? get it? snerf snerf snerf.
